Obituary of Anthony William Percival Parfitt


June 21, 1927 to September 7, 2021

Anthony William Percival “Tony” Parfitt died peacefully on September 7, after a full and accomplished life. Tony is predeceased by his wife, Mary, and his daughter, Monica.  He is survived by his sons: Francis , Stephen (Barbara) and Matthew (Jeff); by his daughters: Helen (Roger) and Clare (Paul); and by grandchildren: Oliver, Geneviève, Sebastien, Marcus and Dominic.


Following UK National Service, Tony graduated with a B.Sc. in Engineering from Imperial College, University of London in 1950. He worked as an engineer at Fraser and Chalmers and the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) in the United Kingdom.  In 1968, he moved with his family to Montreal to take up a position as a consulting engineer with SNC (now SNC-Lavalin) and later Canatom Ltd.  He worked on a number of projects, including the construction of the Point Lepreau, NB, heavy water plant for which he was project manager. Tony was an active member of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineers and was its president in  1982-83.


Tony was active in the community in many ways. In England and Canada, he was a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society and was active carrying out their mission of visiting and helping the disadvantaged in the local community.  As a retiree in Kingston, Ontario, he was on the executive of the Kingston Rideau Trail Club  and received a certificate of appreciation for his work maintaining the walking trails in the region.  He was a volunteer for Providence Manor long term care home in Kingston until almost the age of 90. He participated in the Rockport Breakfast Club.


Tony and Mary were blessed with 57 years of married life and had six children.  Together, they enjoyed boating, Scottish country dancing, hiking and travel.


Visitation will take place on September 11 between 10.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m. at James Reid Funeral Home on 1900 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston, Ontario ( The funeral will take place at St Brendan’s Catholic Church, 8 Front Street, Rockport, Ontario on September 11 at 2.00 p.m..  Current Covid protocols will be observed for all of those attending the visitation and funeral mass.  Donations may be made in Tony's memory to Plan International.
