Obituary of Cynthia Slade

Cynthia Slade

July 23, 1966 – September 19, 2022

It is with sad hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Cynthia at Providence Care Hospital in Kingston at the age of 56. She fought a long and courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease. Cynthia will always be remembered and missed dearly. In good times we enjoyed her wit, humour, sarcasm, enthusiasm and intellect.  As the disease progressed it became more challenging for family, friends and caregivers but we stood by her side always.

Cynthia was born in Deep River and is survived by her mother, Donna DeWolfe  (Kingston) and her Aunt, Judy DeWolfe (Kingston),  her sister, Carol Slade (Glen McDonald) Wolfe Island, her Uncle Leland Dewolfe (June) Nova Scotia and Aunt Anne Burke, Nova Scotia.   As well as many other relatives in Nova Scotia and  Newfoundland who may not have seen her often but she in their thoughts and hearts.

She is predeceased by her father. Charles Slade and  Aunts, Uncles and Cousins who also courageously battled Huntington’s Disease.

We send Cynthia on her journey with much love to be with her grandparents with whom she spent summers in Nova Scotia. She would say those were some of the happiest times of her life.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to many caregivers- Doctors, Nurses, Food Service Staff, Social Workers, Activity Staff, Personal Support Workers, Pastoral Care, Patient Advocate, Volunteers and the Palliative Care Team who provided the utmost care and interacted with Cynthia.  The  love and thoughtfulness of everyone made Providence Care Hospital her home and staff her family. A special thanks to Unit 1 and Lakeview 0 for going above and beyond for Cynthia for many years. Thank you to Sherrie McKegney, Huntington’s Society of Canada Social Worker for her guidance and support.

To honour Cynthia’s memory the family is hosting a Celebration of Life (drop in style) at Legion 560, 734 Montreal St, Kingston on Thursday, October 20th from 1 to 4 pm. Cremation has already taken place and Interment will be a private family service.  As expressions of sympathy donations can be made at the Huntington’s Society of Canada.
